Success in generating electricity from sound. The possibilities of sound are still expanding.

A 17-year-old American high school student, Gyeong Yoon, has proven in his research that electricity can be generated from sound. He succeeded in converting the sound vibrations generated by sound waves in a sports stadium model into electrical energy.

Kyung-Yun used a phenomenon called the piezoelectric effect, which generates electricity from pressure. Since sound is a type of pressure wave caused by the vibration of an object, this principle can be applied.

・He believes that in addition to sports stadiums, this technology could also be used in urban areas with heavy traffic and in factories where machinery is constantly noisy.

The above is a quote from the article

Making electricity with sound. The possibilities of sound are still expanding.

As a musician, I am interested in sound as well as music, so I have blogged about the possibilities of sound in the past, such as ultrasonic transportation and frequencies for dementia prevention.

The research that I am going to cover this time, the study of creating electricity with sound, is something that further expands the possibilities of such sound.

It is true that sound is air vibration, so it may be possible to convert the vibration energy into electricity.

Currently, our electricity comes mainly from thermal, solar, hydro, and nuclear power plants.

Most of it comes from the bounty of the earth’s resources (nature).

However, if sound electrification like this one is successful,

we may be able to generate electricity of human origin for the first time.

If electricity can be generated from the sounds people make at sports venues, live concerts, factories, construction sites, urban noise, etc., it can become a human-derived cyclical energy source.

That is very groundbreaking.

In the extreme,

There is hardly any place in human society that is soundless,

If sound electrification devices become sophisticated enough, it may be possible to replenish power from sound anywhere. (Delusion)

I know I am speaking too soon, but I think this is very exciting research.

See you then

Of course, we must also think at the same time about the circulation of electricity using earth resources (nature). Circulation by human society, circulation of global resources, and circulation (circles) of different scales, but I think both are important.
