Events in 2024

Once again, Happy New Year! I look forward to working with you again this year.

In 2024, our first blog is a preview of the year 2024, which is also a tradition here.

Below are a few things I picked up that I personally liked & a few comments.

■January

・January 1: New NISA system is scheduled to start

When talking about the new NISA, I often see people talking on the assumption that they will make a profit, but I am only talking about the benefits (tax exemption) of the new NISA when you make a profit. Since it is basically an investment, it is normal to lose money. Let’s calmly consider both merits and demerits.

・January 2-3: “The 100th Tokyo-Hakone Round-Trip University Ekiden Race,” the 100th event of its kind, is held.

Congratulations to my alma mater, Aogaku, for winning the championship!

・January 7: NHK Taiga Drama “To the Luminous Kimi” to begin, starring Yuriko Yoshitaka and Tasuku Emoto, depicting the life of Murasaki Shikibu, creator of “The Tale of Genji

It’s been a while since we’ve had a historical drama set in the Heian period, which is quite a long time ago, right? I don’t think we have a lot of historical facts or data on the Heian period, so it will be interesting to see how much of a framework you can create in the script.

・Jan. 12-Feb. 10: AFC Asian Cup 2023 scheduled to be held in Qatar

・Late January: SoftBank’s 3G service “SoftBank 3G” (3rd generation cell phone = so-called “Galaga-Kei”) scheduled to end.

・January: Relay network (backbone network) maintained by NTT East and West to be switched from PSTN network (fixed-line phone contract) to IP network (IP phone); IP-IP connections to be started between NTT East and West’s metal IP phones and each operator

I don’t know the details, but it looks like the landline rates will be uniform nationwide starting January 2024. I think this is related to that.

■February

・February 1: “Toyosu Senkaku Banrai” operated by Manyo Club to open in the off-site area of Toyosu Market

Ghibli Park on the site of the Aichi Expo, and an integrated resort (IR) with casinos on the site of the Osaka Expo. What will happen now?

・March 30: “Formula E” electric car race to be held near Tokyo Big Sight

With the continued popularity of hybrid vehicles and the growing potential for hydrogen vehicles due to hydrogen fuel mining around the world, electric vehicles are no longer the only choice for the car market of the future. What will happen now?

・By the end of March: “Nintendo Museum” to open in Uji City, Kyoto Prefecture.

・Spring: New “Donkey Kong” themed area to open at USJ Super Nintendo World

■April

・April: Multipurpose arena “Yokohama BUNTAI” and “Yokohama Budokan” scheduled to open at the south exit of JR Kannai Station in Yokohama City.

・April: Yamato Holdings and Japan Airlines plan to begin dedicated cargo aircraft operations

I am a little concerned because of the accident at Haneda Airport at the beginning of the year. The flight schedule could be even more overcrowded and complicated by cargo planes.

■May

・May 7: Russian President Vladimir Putin’s term expires. Russian presidential elections are scheduled to be held by this date; not surprisingly, the presidential elections of both the U.S. and Russian major powers will be held in the same year.

・After summer: Iwatani Giken plans to begin balloon-based “space flight” operations.

The space cruise price is 24 million yen. They hope to bring the price down to the 1 million yen range in the next 10 years or so!

・July 3: New banknotes to be issued

The new NISA and the new banknotes will allow the government to better manage and track the wealth of its citizens.

・July 30: Tokyo gubernatorial election to be held before July 30, as Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike’s term ends on this date.

■September

・September: Presidential election to be held by September as Prime Minister Fumio Kishida’s term as president of the Liberal Democratic Party ends.

・Autumn: Two years after the USB Type-C charging mandate enacted by the European Parliament in 2022, charging ports on the side of electronic devices will be converted to a single USB Type-C charging port.

I wonder how long Apple will stick to its own Thunderbolt standard.

・October 14: Nagasaki Stadium City, a complex facility that will become a dedicated soccer stadium for V Faren Nagasaki, to be completed and opened in Nagasaki City.

■November

・November 1: 50th anniversary of Hello Kitty

・November 5:: Presidential election to be held in the U.S.

It will be interesting to see how Trump and Kennedy Jr. Also, in many ways, watch what happens with President Biden. Maybe something very serious will happen, I don’t know.

・December 20: Disney’s “Avatar 3” to be released December 18, 2026 for the fourth installment and December 22, 2028 for the fifth installment in the U.S.

The above is a quick preview of the year 2024.

While major global and national events such as the above are important, your own events are also important. They are more important.

For now, when I buy a new scheduler, I first write in the scheduler the things that are important to me, such as family birthdays, the monthly Ogata-kai (drinking party hosted by myself), etc.

I think I’ve blogged about this before,

Scheduling is.

Many people first write down what they have to do, such as work, and then write down their personal life, such as play, in the gaps.

However,

The ideal scheduling is,

First, write down what you want to do, what you enjoy, and what is important to you, and then adjust and write down what you have to do, such as work, so that those things do not fall apart.

For those above, life and time revolve around things that are not enjoyable.

For those below, life and time revolve around what is enjoyable.

I know that it is not possible to schedule everything completely as ideally as the people below, but as much as possible, I recommend that you do so.

May 2024 be a wonderful year for you and me. (May it be filled with a wonderful schedule)

See you then.

There is a lot going on since the beginning of the year, but let us first try to keep our own minds and bodies in check.
