Should I put my dreams and goals down on paper? How to increase the rate of achievement of your dreams and goals.

【The “Goals are easier to achieve if you write them down on paper” is actually a falsehood!】

・The results of a 1953 Yale University study that is the basis for the claim, “If you write your dreams on paper, they will come true.” In fact, it could not be confirmed and did not exist.

・So, the U.S. Dominican University conducted an experiment to see how it really is.

・The result、、

(1) The achievement rate of those who did not write their goals was about 4.28

(2) Those who wrote down their goals had an achievement rate of about 6.08%.

3) The achievement rate of those who wrote down their goals and then committed (pledged or stated) their actions was 5.08%.

(4) The achievement rate of those who wrote their goals and were asked to send their goals and actions to friends who would support their commitment was 6.41%.

(5) The achievement rate of those who wrote their goals and were asked to develop an action commitment and send their goals, action commitment, and weekly progress report to a friend who would support their commitment (those who reported their progress along the way) was 7.6%.

・In the present results, there was little difference between those who did not write down their goals on paper and those who wrote down their goals on paper and thought about their action plans, but if simply writing down their goals on paper can increase their achievement rate even slightly, there is no reason not to use it!

Should dreams and goals be written on paper or not? How to deal with dreams and goals. How to increase the rate of achievement.

Do you have any kind of aspirations or goals for the new year 2024?

And have you written them down on paper? Do you write them down?

We often hear that writing goals on paper makes it easier to achieve them, but there was actually no research to support this. So, we conducted another experiment, and the results are described above.

Although only a few percent, experiments have shown that writing goals down on paper increases achievement rates.

So it would be better to put dreams and goals on paper.

The point of interest, however, is after the goal is written on paper.

After the goal is written on paper, we see that the rate of achievement changes depending on what is done. In some cases, the rate of achievement seems to decrease. What does that mean?

Here is a summary of why this is so, in my opinion.

Cognitive brain science suggests that it is better not to tell people about your dreams and goals (i.e., not to publicly declare them). The reason for this is that by publicly announcing them, one’s dreams and goals change from “want” to “have to (must).

That is to say,

The pure desire to make one’s dreams come true becomes a feeling of “I have to do something” because one has told others about it, and one falls into a state of mind like an obligation.

When you are in a “want” state, you will have a great deal of power to make your dreams come true,

However, when you are in a “have to” state, you are less likely to achieve your dreams.

So, to avoid falling into such a state, the cognitive brain science view is that it is better not to publicly declare dreams and goals.

In fact, after reading a book on cognitive brain science, I don’t profess my dreams as much anymore.

Combining this cognitive brain science information with the results of the experiment described above, I believe I can summarize the results as follows.

・It is easier to achieve dreams and goals when they are written down on paper.

・Publicly stating your dreams and goals will lower the rate of achievement.

・However, if you talk about your dreams and goals with people who support you, the rate of achievement will increase.

・Talking about your dreams and goals to those who support you and giving regular progress reports will further increase the rate of achievement.

This all seems to make the information add up, doesn’t it?

If you want to increase the rate of achievement of your dreams and goals, you can tell your supporters, but not anyone else.

So that’s what we mean.

Well, it is a given that if you talk to your supporters about your dreams and goals, you will increase the rate of achievement. (If you report your progress to your supporters, they will also know what you need to do now to achieve your dreams and goals.)

The above is whether dreams and goals should be written on paper or not. And here is my own summary of how to increase the rate of achievement of your dreams and goals.

Let’s achieve our many dreams and goals in 2024. We hope the information above will help you do so.

See you then

I generated the image “Write down your dreams and goals on a piece of paper” with AI. 2024 will be a year of many challenges.
